The Overlap Splice
1. Apply an ARclad® double-face tape at a 10° angle across the face of the roll. Wrap tape around the roll's edges to stabilize loose sheet.

2. Rub tape from center to outer edges with a metal squeegee held at a 45° angle for maximum adhesion. Crease excess paper with squeegee and remove tail.* Leave a narrow tail (1/8" - 1/4") of paper next to the tape edge.

3. Rub tape from center to outer edge with a metal squeegee. Remove liner and adhere web to the exposed tape. Rub splice from center to outer edges to remove wrinkles.

4. Finish splice by removing excess paper, leaving a tail of 1/8" - 1/4". Be sure to trim excess tape from the ends of the splice.

* Note: When removing tails, always tear tail away from tape.
The Flying Splice
Several patterns may be utilized in making a flying splice. See the diagrams below for some common patterns.
Straight Splice
1. Crease and tear the leading edge of the incoming roll to provide a guideline for application of the tab tape.

2. Secure the leading edge of the roll to prevent gapping.

3. Apply ARclad® 8345 or ARclad® 8395 tab tape to secure the leading edge of the reel.

4. The ARclad® 8345 and ARclad® 8395 are designed for easy positioning across the full web width.

5. Apply ARclad® double-faced tape directly above the tab tape.

6. Rub thoroughly from the center out.

7. Remove the release liner immediately before making the flying splice.

The Flying Splice
Sawtooth Pattern
1. Apply ARclad® 555 trapezoid tabs to the web as a tab.

2. Use the trapezoid edges as a guide to apply the splicing tape.

3. The result will be an angle strip of ARclad® double-faced tape in a sawtoothed or "W" pattern.

4. Rub the splicing tape to provide a smooth surface free of gaps.

5. Continue with the same process across the entire web.

6. If necessary, a piece of tape can be applied perpendicular to the web at the center of the "V" for additional adhesive coverage (see Option 2).

7. Remove the paper between the sawtooth using the release liner as guide.

8. Remove the release liner immediately before making the flying splice.

The Flying Splice
Bent Wing Pattern
1. Crease and tear the leading edge of the incoming roll.

2. Apply Arclad® 8445 tabs to secure the leading edge of the roll.

3. Apply ARclad® double-faced tape parallel to the web edge in the center of the roll leaving several inches of paper without tape on either side of the web.

4. Apply the tape on either edge of the parallel Arclad® double-faced tape in an angled direction. Use the parallel strip and the web edge as a guide.

5. Crease and tear the tail along the edge of the angled tape strips.

6. Remove the release liner immediately before making the flying splice.

The Butt Splice
1. Center a strip of ARclad® single-faced tape to an incoming web's tail, adhering it to only 1/2 of the tape's width.

2. Adhere tail of expiring web, lining up the roll edges. Avoid gapping between web ends to eliminate exposed adhesive.

3. Rub tape from center to outer edges with a metal squeegee held at 45° angle for maximum adhesion.

4. Apply a second strip of tape directly over the joint formed by the splice. Rub finished splice with a metal squeegee for maximum adhesion.
